The Day Our Son Was Born

The Day Our Son Was Born
The Day Our Son Was Born

It had been 3 long days in labor and delivery. I had to be induced and our son did not want to make an appearance. My then husband would disappear for extended periods of time. He would say he walked to the store, etc. Months later when I cleaned out my car, I found his rolled up burnt papers from smoking crack. The only time he had been in my car by himself was the week I was in the hospital when our son was born.

I had finally reached 9cm and I called him to come quickly. He finally arrived in the room and everything happened very quickly. While I was pushing the nurses got concerned about John's color and thought he looked like he was about to pass out. After our son was born, he went over to the couch in our room and passed out and I could not wake him up. I really needed him to help with our son because I was in bad condition and the nurses said I shouldn't be caring for him by myself. They couldn't wake him up either.

He had a large section of his moustache that was burnt. I kept wondering what is was from but thought it must be from a cigarette somehow. I knew better. The thought of it touching my lips when he would kiss me still makes my stomach churn.

He worked overnights. He had taken 3 nights off of work but was eager to return once our son was born. He did not have enough gas to get to work and I did not have cash, so I gave him my debit card to get some gas. This happened right after they transferred us to our normal room instead of the birthing room. They finally thought I was stable enough to be moved. It was a moment that should've been celebrated.

He said he would be right back. Well, he wasn't. He called saying he had gone back to the house using some excuse about being worried about his cat and overhearing my dad saying he couldn't find him. Well, while he was gone I checked my bank account and found that he had stolen $20 from my checking and $20 from my savings. I had managed to save up $360 for when I was out of work with our son.

He said that I had plenty of money and he had none,so he took it. He stole money from me the day I gave birth to our son. Instead of staying in the room and celebrating our family, he stole money from me and went and did drugs.

This is what I think of when I think of the day my son was born. It was supposed to be the best day of our lives/marriage and instead, it was just another day for him to shit on me. On a day I couldn't do anything about it because I was in a hospital bed recovering from birthing our son.<At the time, I did not know he was on drugs. Once I found out, it all made sense.
